Caring For Families Since 1910

For generations, Croft Funeral Home has been a part of your community, quietly supporting families through their hardest moments.
We’re proud to say we’re the longest-established funeral home in the area, a place where care and family values remain at the heart of what we do. Croft Funeral Home has been run by families for families, since it was founded in 1910.
Serving Families Since 1910

A lot has changed since we first opened our doors in 1910. Back then our funeral home was located in South Street, Petone and owned by the Croft family. The current site in Lower Hutt was purchased in 1936, which at the time, was on the outskirts of town. In 1937 our funeral home was relocated to this site where it remains today.

The little house (known as a croft) in our logo was introduced by Robert Sinclair as a symbol of his Celtic heritage, when he became the new owner in 2010. Since then, he has made a number of alterations to modernise the outside and the interior, while being careful to pay tribute to the history and keep the warmth of the chapel atmosphere.

Changing with the Times

Today, the streets outside are busier, the town has grown, and life in the Hutt Valley feels a little faster. But through it all, we’ve stayed true to what matters most: offering families comfort in their time of need. We are a small family taking care of local families, proud to be able to provide a personalised service filled with care and compassion. We receive many emails of thanks for the extra touches we provide, placing families wishes and needs at the forefront of our services.

We’ve seen a lot of changes in how people say farewell to their loved ones. From providing traditional services across the wider Wellington region to more personalised memorials and even eco-friendly options, we’ve adapted to make sure we meet the changing needs of the families we serve. Through it all, our core values—compassion, respect, and connection—have stayed the same. We feel honoured to be a part of this community’s story and grateful for every family who has walked through our doors and trusted us to take care of their loved ones.

As changes continue to occur in Lower Hutt and buildings are removed around us to make way for the Riverlink project, our commitment to you remains unwavering. If you or your family are in need of support, or simply wish to learn more about how we can help you in your time of need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us on 04 569 7072, or email robert@croftfunerals.co.nz

While our primary chapel is based in Lower Hutt, we perform funeral services across many venues throughout the Wellington area, including Wainuiomata, Petone, Upper Hutt and central Wellington.
